Binary Defense monitored criminal forums and identified an actor selling backdoor access to an MSP and later advertising ransomware development and stolen tax returns. Working with the FBI, Binary Defense purchased access to preserve evidence (without exploiting it), shared intelligence that enabled the MSP to remediate, and helped investigators identify and arrest the responsible former MSP employee, halting further criminal activity.
