Two U.S.-based cybersecurity professionals were sentenced to four years each for acting as affiliates of the ALPHV/BlackCat ransomware RaaS, conducting an extortion campaign in 2023 that targeted medical and engineering firms, leaked sensitive patient data to increase pressure, and extracted a reported $1.2M in Bitcoin; law enforcement tracked suspects internationally, secured convictions, and developed a decryption tool that helped victims recover systems without paying.
