Telemetry Interception: The Unauthorized Routing of Motorola’s Amazon Gateway

Motorola devices in the US were observed briefly redirecting users launching the Amazon Shopping app through an affiliate tracking URL injected by a pre-installed Smart Feed component, funneling referral commissions to a newly registered domain. The behavior—attributed by Motorola to a misconfiguration in an experimental on-device app recommendation/monetization module co-developed with a third party—was quickly corrected following public backlash and internal remediation.
