The “Laptop Farm” Fallout: Two NJ Men Sentenced for Facilitating $5M North Korean Work Scheme

Two New Jersey residents were sentenced for running a ‘‘laptop farm’’ scheme (2021–2024) that enabled North Korean IT workers to appear as U.S.-based contractors, using stolen identities and KVM hardware to remotely access systems at over 100 U.S. companies; the operation funneled more than $5M to DPRK actors, exposed ITAR-restricted defense data, and involved wire fraud, money laundering, and identity-theft conspiracies.
