Science at the Speed of AI: OpenAI Unveils Prism for LaTeX Research

OpenAI announced the acquisition of the cloud-based LaTeX platform Crixet and launched Prism, a free AI-powered research and typesetting assistant built on the GPT-5.2 Thinking model. Marketed as a “Claude Code for the scientific community,” Prism translates natural language into compilable LaTeX (including TikZ diagrams), curates relevant literature, auto-formats bibliographies, and assists with lesson plans and problem sets. While emphasizing user responsibility for verification to mitigate hallucinations, OpenAI is retiring the Crixet brand and plans to expand Prism’s availability to Business, Team, Enterprise, and Education tiers.
