The Biology Factory: NVIDIA and Lilly’s $1B Bet on AI Drug Discovery

NVIDIA announced a major expansion of its BioNeMo platform alongside a five-year, $1B collaboration with Eli Lilly to create an AI Co-Innovation Lab that integrates supercomputing (Vera Rubin), autonomous robotics, and a “scientist-in-the-loop” workflow for continuous molecular design, synthesis, and testing. The company also partnered with Thermo Fisher to embed DGX Spark edge computing and **NVIDIA NeMo** agentic AI into lab instruments and to use **Omniverse** for digital twins of manufacturing. New BioNeMo capabilities include **RNAPro** for RNA structure prediction, **ReaSyn v2** for synthesizability prediction, and **BioNeMo Recipes** for standardized model development—aiming to shift drug discovery from high-throughput screening to generative design, while acknowledging the substantial complexity of biological systems.
