Structured Expiration: Microsoft Enforces Comprehensive Lifecycle Management for OneDrive

Microsoft is introducing a Structured Lifecycle Management Framework for OneDrive for Business and consumer accounts: unlicensed profiles retain read/write access until day 60, transition to read-only, are archived/frozen on day 93 (accessible only for e-discovery/legal hold), and face permanent deletion after 365 days. The policy is enabled by default and will roll out to all Microsoft 365 enterprise tenants beginning July 2026; administrators can restore access by reassigning licenses and users should migrate personal data within 60 days to avoid freezing or paying to recover archived data.
