AhnLab ASEC reports that the ViperSoftX malware family has evolved to use the open-source Tesseract OCR engine (termed TesseractStealer) to scan image files (.png/.jpg/.jpeg) for phrases indicating OTPs, wallet seeds, and recovery passwords; matched images are exfiltrated to attackers' C2. The malware is distributed via cracked software and other lures, and often deploys additional payloads such as Quasar RAT, posing a direct risk of cryptocurrency theft and system compromise; users are advised to avoid untrusted downloads and keep security software updated.
