New World, New Thinking: Why “The Box” Has Got To Go

This article argues that to realize true cloud agility for network and security services, providers must move beyond virtualized instances of legacy appliances (the 'box' mindset) and adopt cloud-native architecture principles—placing processes closer to the edge, enabling process-to-need migration, ensuring low-latency inter-PoP networking, providing fully virtualized tenant networks, and enforcing common design patterns and management/orchestration. The piece critiques slow NFV progress, outlines how NSaaS should be implemented to be elastic, multi-tenant, and context-aware, and positions Cato Networks' architecture and white paper as aligned with these principles.
