China Cybercriminals Behind Toll-Themed Smishing Attacks Surge in the US and UK

Resecurity reports a large-scale smishing campaign by a China-based criminal group called the “Smishing Triad” targeting US and UK users with fraudulent toll-payment SMS (e.g., FasTrak, E-ZPass, I-Pass). The actors have used over 60,000 domains, spoofed sender IDs, and underground bulk IM/SMS services to target millions of consumers, increasing the risk of financial fraud and credential theft and likely to expand to other countries.
