APWG Report: Social Media Phishing is Surging

The APWG Q1 2026 report notes a marked increase in phishing and impersonation threats across all social media platforms, with scams (27.1%) and impersonation (43.8%) comprising 70.9% of observed threats. Attackers are employing more sophisticated evasion techniques—such as geo/IP and user-agent blocking and referrer-based content delivery—to hide fraudulent pages from scanners and target victims selectively, lengthening campaign lifespans.
