BleepingComputer reports a surge in smishing texts targeting Apple iMessage users that instruct recipients to reply (for example “Please reply Y”) so iMessage will enable links from unknown senders; once links are enabled the messages can deliver phishing URLs or otherwise escalate targeting. The campaign impersonates routine notifications (package deliveries, unpaid tolls) and leverages users’ habit of replying to SMS to bypass iMessage’s link-blocking protection, making responders higher-value targets.
