Trend Micro reports that threat actors leveraged voice phishing (vishing) via Microsoft Teams to socially engineer a victim into downloading remote-access software (AnyDesk) and attempt installation of the DarkGate malware. The incident was thwarted before damage occurred, but researchers note DarkGate is commonly distributed via phishing/malvertising/SEO poisoning and that vishing-led intrusions have in other cases resulted in ransomware; they recommend employee security awareness training to mitigate such social-engineering attacks.
