Broken Cyber Windows Theory

This article applies the Broken Windows Theory to cybersecurity, arguing that visible neglect in digital environments fosters risky behavior and that improving the “look and feel” of security, addressing small issues promptly, and recognizing good practices can shift culture. It recommends practical steps—digital environment audits, simple reporting mechanisms, redesigned and engaging communications, empowered security champions, and community-style events—to make secure behavior the norm across organizations.
