Report: Scams Are Surging as Attackers Abuse Trusted Workflows

Gen Digital's H1 2026 report documents a sharp rise in scams and abuse of trusted workflows: scams comprised 46% of detections, tech support and e-shop scams produced tens to hundreds of millions of blocked events, imposter and family impersonation scams spiked (up 387% and 454% respectively), and web skimming attacks increased 212%. The report notes large-scale scam advertising impressions and describes attackers leveraging urgency, delegated authority, and in some cases AI voice cloning to improve social engineering and monetization at the point of payment.
