Report: Shadow AI Poses an Increasing Risk to Organizations

Netskope reports a surge in enterprise “shadow AI,” tracking 1,550 genAI SaaS apps (average 15 per organization) and increased monthly data uploads to 8.2 GB, with consolidation around Google Gemini and Microsoft Copilot, a slight decline in ChatGPT usage, and growth in Claude, Perplexity, Grammarly, Gamma, and Grok (still often blocked). The fastest growth is in genAI platforms (users up 50% in the three months ending May 2025), heightening enterprise data security risks and underscoring the need for DLP, granular controls, continuous monitoring, and security awareness.
