Malicious Loan Apps Target Android Users in Africa, South America and Asia

McAfee researchers report a global increase in SpyLoan Android apps—malicious loan applications distributed via social media links and app stores that impersonate banks, harvest personal information, request excessive permissions, and use deceptive tactics to extort victims; researchers identified 15 apps with over 8 million installs and a 75% rise in infections from end-Q2 to end-Q3 2024.
