Human Nature Is Causing Our Cybersecurity Problem

This commentary argues that organizational procrastination, driven by human temporal discounting, is a primary reason many software manufacturers fail to adopt secure development practices. It calls for stronger government intervention—greater enforcement, liability reform, and agency oversight (FTC, CISA, NIST)—along with incentives and industry standards (SBOMs, secure-by-design) to compel better security outcomes.
