Caliptra 1.0 is an open-source specification led by Google and industry partners to integrate zero-trust and root-of-trust security features directly into silicon. The spec provides hardware and software blocks to protect firmware, ROMs, and confidential computing workloads (similar to on-chip TPM functionality), is available for tape-in/testing with expected product integration across multiple chip types (including RISC-V implementations), and is being adopted by several vendors while some (e.g., Intel) pursue separate on-chip security solutions.
