Fake Recruiters Defraud Facebook Users via Remote-Work Offers

Researchers warn of an ongoing job-scam campaign on Facebook in which attackers post fake remote-work ads, impersonate recruiters (including posing as Qualys), and steer victims to private messaging apps (e.g., Go Chat, Signal) to obtain scanned IDs, credentials, and to coerce victims into cashing checks to fund bogus equipment purchases — enabling identity theft and financial fraud. Qualys has notified Facebook and law enforcement; the report advises verifying openings on official sites, avoiding installing requested apps, and being skeptical of unsolicited social-media job offers.
