Operation Red Card 2.0 and related Interpol-coordinated efforts disrupted organized, transnational cybercrime syndicates across Africa, resulting in 651 arrests and $4.3M recovered; these operations targeted investment fraud rings, mobile loan scams, and a syndicate that had infiltrated a major telecom. The report highlights the increasing use of AI/large language models by criminals to improve phishing effectiveness, the transnational, scalable nature of fraud (over $45M siphoned overall), and the critical role of public–private intelligence-sharing, capacity building, and public awareness initiatives in combating these threats.
