DARPA Announces AI Cyber Challenge Finalists

DARPA's AIxCC semifinal at DEF CON 32 awarded seven teams $2 million each to advance to the finals; competing AI systems were tested on challenge projects to identify and fix vulnerabilities in open-source infrastructure software. Across nearly 40 teams, the systems found 22 synthetic vulnerabilities and produced 15 patches (11 for C-based challenges and 4 for Java), and they also discovered one real-world SQLite3 bug that has been disclosed; finalists have one year to prepare for the final and winners must open-source their systems.
