Microsoft Lays Out Its Quantum-Safe Plans

Microsoft published an updated Quantum-Safe Program roadmap accelerating its target to make core products and services quantum-safe by 2033, with early-deployment post-quantum capabilities expected by 2029. The roadmap outlines a phased approach: integrating PQC into foundational components (SymCrypt with NIST-selected algorithms and Cryptography API updates), updating core infrastructure services (authentication, key/secret management, signing, network services) through 2029, and rolling out PQC across Windows, Azure, Microsoft 365, data platforms, and Copilot starting around 2027; it also enables TLS hybrid key exchange to mitigate harvest-now, decrypt-later threats.
