NIST has published three new post-quantum cryptography standards (FIPS 203–205) to replace current algorithms vulnerable to future quantum attacks: FIPS 203 (ML-KEM) for key encapsulation/encryption, FIPS 204 (ML-DSA) as the primary digital signature standard, and FIPS 205 (SLH-DSA) as a backup signature option; the agency recommends adopting these standards now while it evaluates additional backup algorithms.
