Industrial System Cyberattacks Surge as OT Stays Vulnerable

Ransomware incidents targeting industrial and OT environments rose sharply in 2024, with about 1,700 observed breaches (an 87% increase), a quarter of affected sites halting operations, and widespread operational disruption; reports from Dragos and Claroty also highlight large numbers of attacker groups (≈80), high OT internet exposure (40% of organizations) and prevalence of known exploited vulnerabilities (31%), making manufacturing and oil/gas particularly at risk.
