Australia Intros Its First National Cyber Legislation

Australia introduced the Cyber Security Bill 2024, its first comprehensive effort to codify security standards for smart devices, mandate ransomware reporting, and formalize coordination and post-incident reviews via a new Cyber Incident Review Board. The bill, aligned with and reinforcing the SOCI Act, tightens rules on how incident information is shared domestically and internationally, enhances government assistance for critical infrastructure, and supports the 2023 Australian Cybersecurity Strategy to position the country as a cybersecurity leader by 2030.
