Latin America's Cyber Maturity Lags Threat Landscape

Intel 471's 2025 regional report and supporting OAS findings show Latin America experiencing rapidly rising cybercrime and attack volumes — including a 78% year-over-year rise in ransomware breach events and more than 450 ransomware incidents — driven by rapid digitalization, security gaps, prolific initial access brokers (~200), numerous hacktivist and APT clusters, and the reuse/scale of criminal tools (banking trojans, extortion networks); high-impact cases included an 800M BRL theft from Brazilian financial institutions and the extortion of millions of Paraguayan citizen records.
