runZero Research Explores Unexpected Exposures in Enterprise Infrastructure

runZero's inaugural Research Report analyzes asset security across enterprise internal, internet-facing, and cloud environments and finds widespread exposure and misconfiguration risks: internet-exposed ICS (over 7% sampled), substantial unmanaged "dark matter" (19%) plus limited-management devices (45%), high prevalence of SSH password authentication (92%), EoL OpenSSL in ~16% of TLS implementations, SMBv1 still enabled on 13% of Windows systems, EoL OS/hypervisor instances, printers/NAS permitting IP forwarding, and a surge in zero-day responses — urging improved asset discovery and exposure management.
