Learning From Ukraine's Pioneering Approaches to Cybersecurity

This commentary argues for shifting cybersecurity “left of bang” by prioritizing crown-jewel protection and continuous risk management, drawing lessons from Ukraine’s defender advantage during sustained cyber conflict. It highlights the value of public–private partnerships, rapid information sharing, foundational hygiene (e.g., attack surface management, certificate and DNS hardening), use of key risk indicators, organizational readiness, and a security-aware culture. The piece presents these practices as a template for resilient cyber defense across public and private sectors amid escalating geopolitical and cyber threats.
