The U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has placed 17 employees—including ten regional election security specialists and other members of its Election Security and Resilience team—on administrative leave while conducting an internal review of their work combating election-related cyber threats and disinformation; most were former state or local election officials who supported thousands of local jurisdictions. The reviews have heightened concerns about CISA's operational continuity and future role in election security, particularly given leadership uncertainty in the current administration.
