Google Targets Passkey Support to High-Risk Execs, Civil Society

Google is adding passkey support (FIDO2-based) to its Advanced Protection Program for high-risk users, enabling passwordless authentication that resists phishing and adversary-in-the-middle attacks; the company also partnered with Internews to provide security support to journalists and human rights workers across 10 countries. Google cites over 1 billion passkey authentications across 400M accounts, notes that APP prevents downgrade scenarios exploited in “passkey redaction” attacks, and encourages hardened recovery with options like additional passkeys or security keys.
