Top 5 Most Dangerous Cyber Threats in 2024

At RSA Conference 2024, SANS experts identified five top enterprise threats for 2024: security degradation from accumulated technical debt and complex supply chains; AI-enabled synthetic identity and biometric spoofing; rising sextortion amplified by AI-generated media; generative-AI election manipulation and deepfakes; and offensive AI as a force-multiplier that accelerates vulnerability discovery and exploit weaponization. The panel emphasized stronger identity verification, anti-extortion training, public–private collaboration on detection and safeguards, and defensive automation to keep pace with rapidly evolving attacker capabilities.
