Lies, Damned Lies, and Cybersecurity Metrics

Despite rising investment and tooling, a panel of cybersecurity leaders argued outcomes are worsening and identified five pervasive myths undermining defense: equating activity with progress, believing everything can be prevented, overestimating understanding of threats, assuming technology alone will fix problems, and assuming configurations are correct. They recommend measuring outcomes over activity, prioritizing response and recovery, improving threat modeling and research, using AI with auditability and control, and continuously validating security configurations and controls.
