Apple has agreed to a preliminary $95 million cash settlement in the class-action case Lopez v. Apple, Inc., which alleges that the "Hey Siri" feature unintentionally recorded user conversations between Sept. 17, 2014 and Dec. 31 of last year and that recordings led to targeted ads and privacy harms; the proposed deal would pay class members up to $20 per Siri-enabled device, plaintiffs may seek up to $28.5 million in fees and $1.1 million in expenses, Apple denies wrongdoing, and the settlement requires approval from US District Judge Jeffrey White.
