State and Local Leaders Lobby Congress for Cybersecurity Resources

A coalition of state and local government and cybersecurity organizations warned Congress that emergency federal funding for the Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center (MS-ISAC) will run out on Sept. 30, potentially creating significant cybersecurity risks for state, local, and municipal critical infrastructure; the letter highlights MS-ISAC's 2024 activity (over 40,000 detected potential attacks, more than 59,000 malware/ransomware prevented, and 5.4 million suspected malicious emails blocked) and notes that loss of funding could force CIS to charge for services or reduce support, leaving smaller and rural communities more vulnerable — the report also references recent Chinese nation-state exploitation of a Microsoft SharePoint bug against U.S. critical infrastructure.
