Bogus 'BianLian' Gang Sends Snail-Mail Extortion Letters

Researchers observed a deceptive extortion campaign where actors impersonating the BianLian ransomware group mailed executives ransom letters demanding $150,000–$500,000 (healthcare-targeted letters demanded $350,000). Guidepoint and Arctic Wolf concluded the letters are scams—wallets were newly generated and target organizations showed no evidence of ransomware intrusions—and recommended reporting to law enforcement, raising internal awareness, and verifying network alerts and defenses.
