Apple Warns iPhone Sideloading Changes Will Increase Cyber Threats

Apple is modifying iOS, Safari, and the App Store in the EU to comply with the Digital Markets Act by allowing third-party app stores, alternative payments, and non-Safari default browsers, supported by 600+ new APIs. While noting increased risks like malware, fraud, and scams, Apple plans mitigations including app notarization for sideloaded apps and payment disclosures, with EU-focused guidance coming in March; these changes do not extend outside Europe.
