Securing the Future: Building Quantum-Safe Networks Today

Quantum key distribution (QKD) is moving from laboratory research into operational networks, with examples such as the BT/Toshiba/HSBC trial in London and Orange/Toshiba’s commercial service in Paris; the report argues that interoperable standards, transparent security certification, and coordinated industry and government collaboration are essential to scale QKD, prevent vendor lock-in, and ensure long-term, quantum-resistant protection for critical sectors like finance, defense, and telecommunications.
