AI Is Reshaping Modern Cybercrime

Fortinet, in collaboration with UC Berkeley's CLTC and partners, reports practitioner insights from Singapore and other tabletop exercises on AI-enabled cybercrime, finding that AI accelerates phishing, reconnaissance, code and malware iteration, lowers barriers to entry while increasing specialization, expands the attack surface beyond technical systems to human and organizational domains, and currently advantages attackers over defenders. The report emphasizes that governance clarity, evidence-based decision-making, AI-assisted detection with strong human oversight, and robust public-private collaboration are critical to response and resilience, with a comprehensive public report expected in Q1 2026.
