VECT Ransomware is a Wiper, Not Ransomware — Don’t Bother Paying, Says Check Point Research

Check Point Research found that VECT ransomware irreversibly discards the data needed to decrypt large files across Windows, Linux and VMware ESXi versions, meaning VM images, databases, backups and archives cannot be restored even if a ransom is paid; the flaw has existed in all known versions. The report warns this behavior effectively turns VECT into a wiper, increasing risk to victims and inexperienced affiliates, while VECT operators have publicly downplayed the findings.
