National Kidney Registry allegedly hacked by DireWolf ransomware group

Since May 2025 the ransomware group DireWolf has posted a leak claiming to have exfiltrated 253 GB (about 180,000 files) from more than 100 targets, including U.S. healthcare organizations and allegedly the National Kidney Registry; the group describes double-extortion tactics and claims the data includes sensitive patient information (SSNs, DOBs, medical histories, HLA typing), but no sample data or independent confirmation has been provided and the registry has not responded to contact attempts.
