Illinois Department of Human Services tightens map security after data incident

The Illinois Department of Human Services disclosed a data security incident in which internal mapping files used for resource planning were made publicly accessible because of incorrect privacy settings. The maps contained PII including names, addresses, case numbers, case status, referral source, region/office data, and program recipient status, affecting ~32,401 Division of Rehabilitation Services customers and ~672,616 Medicaid and Medicare Savings Program recipients; the data was accessible from April 2021 through September 2025.
