Maine House advances McCabe bill to strengthen cybersecurity at Maine hospitals

Maine House Democrats advanced LD 2103, a bill requiring hospitals to adopt DHS/CISA-aligned cybersecurity plans that mandate timely law enforcement and regulator notification, backup communications, and annual employee training. The legislation was prompted by cyberattacks last spring that crippled communications and disrupted care at five hospitals (Covenant Health’s St. Mary’s in Lewiston, St. Joseph’s in Bangor, and three Central Maine Medical Center facilities in Lewiston, Bridgton and Rumford), putting roughly 400,000 residents at risk; the bill faces further votes in the legislature.
