Malay Mail reports that Ryuki Hayashi, a 25-year-old man, became the first person in Japan convicted for creating a computer virus using generative AI; the Tokyo District Court found him guilty of developing a ransomware-like virus in March 2023 using illegal source code obtained with AI tools, and sentenced him to three years in prison, suspended for four years.
