Dutch intelligence services (AIVD and MIVD) warn that Russian state-linked hackers are actively targeting Signal and WhatsApp accounts of senior officials, military personnel, civil servants and journalists globally, using social-engineering—such as impersonating a Signal support chatbot—to trick victims into revealing verification and PIN codes and thereby seize control of accounts; some Dutch government employees have been targeted and in some cases compromised.
