As ransomware gangs threaten physical harm, ‘I am afraid of what’s next,’ ex-negotiator says

A survey of 1,500 security and IT professionals finds ransomware gangs increasingly use a mix of coercive tactics—data destruction (63%), system lockouts (52%), threats to file regulatory complaints (47%), and direct physical threats to employees or families (40%)—to pressure organizations into paying extortion demands.
