National Health Care Fraud Takedown Results in 324 Defendants Charged in Connection with Over $14.6 Billion in Alleged Fraud

The Justice Department announced a nationwide 2025 Health Care Fraud Takedown charging 324 defendants across federal and state jurisdictions for schemes that allegedly sought over $14.6 billion in intended loss; actions included arrests, asset seizures, and CMS prevention of billions in fraudulent payments. Major schemes described include a transnational organization that allegedly submitted over $10.6 billion in fraudulent Medicare claims using stolen identities and laundering proceeds (Operation Gold Rush), telemedicine and genetic testing fraud, fraudulent wound care targeting vulnerable patients, large-scale diversion of prescription opioids, and numerous other schemes involving kickbacks, deceptive marketing, and identity theft.
