Medicare portal database exposed health providers’ Social Security numbers

The Washington Post found that a publicly accessible database used to populate a new Medicare provider directory created by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services contained health-care providers' Social Security numbers linked to names and other identifying information, representing an inadvertent data exposure tied to the administration's Medicare portal initiative.
