Can CISOs Meet Expectations?

This article critiques the modern CISO role, questioning whether CISOs can realistically ensure protection against emerging threats and highlighting systemic pressures such as the eroded network perimeter, rising cyber insurance costs, board-level scrutiny, and turnover driven by constant firefighting. Drawing on industry commentary and recommendations for simplification and platform consolidation, it concludes that many CISOs lack the authority, tools, and staffing to meet expectations and calls for a high-priority, cross-stakeholder effort to properly resource and empower them.
