Inflation, stagflation, and spin – the Kremlin’s economic war propaganda

This article analyzes how the Kremlin projects an image of economic resilience despite deep structural problems: rising inflation and food prices, labour shortages, dependence on the arms sector and hydrocarbons, capital flight and divestment following the 2022 invasion of Ukraine, and sanction evasion measures. It argues pro‑Kremlin propaganda aims to conceal economic strain and to deter international support for Ukraine, while noting new sanctions, attacks on oil infrastructure, and sustained military spending point to difficult months ahead for Russia's economy.
